Brick by Brick is a nonprofit theater company based in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. We specialize in theater of joy in times of trouble, bridging the gap between stories of loss and grief and stories of happiness and lightness.
We are delighted and proud to work heavily in outreach through Safely Thus, our somatic healing program that utilizes Shakespearean text, somatic breathing exercises, and communal support and encouragement to guide participants into feeling safe enough to take up their space and use the full extent of their voice— whether those participants are incarcerated youth, residents of elder care organizations, or aspiring actors seeking to grow their instruments of speech and movement.
But at the end of the day, we’re also a collective of artists, actors, writers, set designers, musicians, and jacks-of-all-trades who are deeply refreshed by and trust each other to the point where we want to keep making art together for as long as we possibly can. We find just as much joy in sold out runs of our Shakespeare productions as in meals shared together under bright autumn days.
Most importantly, we are slowly but surely building a community of storytellers who can see the glow of the world and everything in it despite the rough edges and the raw hems that mark our lives and our art— step by step, and brick by brick.
